Loggers Association Honors Outstanding Sawmill Operator
(More news)During their annual Loggers Expo in May, 2007, the Northeastern Loggers’ Association of Old Forge, NY, held an Awards Banquet in Brewer, Maine where several Industry Leaders were recognized for outstanding contributions and achievements. Among the award recipients was NELMA member, Hancock Lumber Company of Casco, Maine – recognized as Outstanding Sawmill Operator.
According to NELA President John Caveney and Vice President Mel Lewis, “Since Hancock Lumber was founded in 1848, it has built a reputation as one of Southern Maine’s most successful businesses. In addition to its sawmill operation and retail business, Hancock Land Company, Hancock Lumber’s sister company, owns more than 40,000 acres of timberland throughout Maine, which it manages for eastern white pine. Hancock Lumber has become a powerful steward of the environment in Maine. “
Kevin Hancock told an interviewer recently “we are very serious about our role as caretakers. We protect the environment in many ways simply by staying business and thoughtfully using the land we own. We are also proud to be working with wood, and producing products that are grown and manufactured in Maine, and also good for the environment".
