Insulation of Thermocouples
(More news)The following important information is applicable to NELMA-certified facilities that utilize thermocouples to record and verify the heat treatment requirements to meet the ISPM 15 Standard:
- The drilled hole for the placement of the thermocouple probe must be close in size to the actual probe to eliminate air circulation around the probe
- After the probe is in place, the hole must be sealed with a non-heat conducting putty or silicone caulk to prevent any entrance of air.
- The above procedure will be monitored during routine scheduled inspections at your facility by NELMA staff.
These procedures will help ensure that the verification recordings are a true reading of the wood core temperature and not influenced by the surrounding hot air.
If you have any questions regarding these procedures, please contact NELMA at 207-829-6901.
