NELMA Partners with Habitat for Humanity and SFIŽ on Minnesota Project

(More news)

What happens when a couple of tree farmers, a troop of Girl Scouts, a lumber grading agency, and dozens of volunteers get together? You create a Habitat for Humanity home built on the principles of sustainable forestry!

This is exactly what has happened this summer in Hibbing, Minnesota.  Trees donated from two separate SFI-certified tree farms were harvested and sawn by a local Minnesota mill into the structural members used for constructing the home. NELMA Inspector, Murdock McLeod then graded and stamped 1,683 board feet of lumber (Stud and No.2 grades) to meet local building code requirements for the project. And to make the project complete, the local Girl Scouts, replanted the areas where the trees had been harvested with seedlings donated by the University of Minnesota.  Job well done!
