Effective January 17, 2012, NELMA became one of the first agencies to obtain accreditation from the American Lumber Standard Committee’s (ALSC) Board of Review to provide quality control inspection services to densified fuel (wood pellet) manufacturers. Headquartered in Cumberland, Maine, NELMA was created in 1933 as a non-profit trade organization. The Association has qualified inspection staff currently located in the Northeastern, Mid-Atlantic, Upper Midwest, and Great Lakes regions of the U.S.
For the past several years, the Pellet Fuel Institute (PFI) has worked closely with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and wood pellet manufacturers to develop the PFI Standard Specification for Residential/Commercial Densified Fuel, which formed the backbone of PFI’s Residential/Commercial Densified Fuel QA/QC Handbook for the industry. Based upon their lengthy experience with the enforcement of similar wood product standards that include lumber, pressure-treated wood, and wood packaging, ALSC was selected as the 3rd-party organization to implement the PFI Standard.
NELMA is pleased to add this program to their list of inspection services available to the industry. With more than 75 years of administering cost-effective inspection programs to the wood products industry, NELMA is poised to perform all necessary verification and quality inspections at wood pellet manufacturing facilities. Coupled with the Association's signature customer service, NELMA offers a true partnership with each manufacturer to meet product standard compliance and qualification procedures.
Wood pellet manufacturers located in the Northeastern, Mid-Atlantic, Upper Midwest, and Great Lakes regions are invited to take a closer look at what NELMA has to offer.
