(January 2, 2012) Britton Lumber Company, Inc., Fairlee, Vermont announced that it has purchased the assets of Jim Gillies Lumber, Inc., of Gray, Maine.
Jim Gillies Lumber, founded in 1969, is a building materials wholesaler servicing retail lumber yards in Maine, Eastern New Hampshire and Northeastern Massachusetts. Britton Lumber was founded in 1946 and is a wholesale building materials distributor supplying retail lumber yards and home centers in Vermont, New Hampshire, New York, Massachusetts and Maine. It also has manufacturing division, producing kiln dried Eastern White Pine boards at its facilities in Fairlee.
Britton Lumber will operate the Maine facility as a satellite distribution yard. Sales and accounting activities will go through the Fairlee, Vermont office in support of the operations staff in Maine. The acquisition will allow Britton Lumber to expand its distribution coverage throughout the State of Maine. Inventory and product lines in Maine will be expanded gradually, starting with roofing products.
