White Pine Monograph – Newburyport Revisited

The latest issue of the White Pine Series of Architectural Monographs, Volume XXIX, No. 2, takes us “back to the future” in a revisit to Newburyport, Massachusetts: America’s Original Seaport.   It was the June 1917 edition of the Monograph that showcased an entire town basically built of Eastern White Pine along with the colorful history and dominant presence of the city in its colonial heyday.

The message in the new edition is clear; those grand homes built in the late 1700s and early 1800s stand proud today but for one reason – Eastern White Pine. The diverse and versatile use of products made from this locally-grown species are a visual show in grandeur form all along High Street.   One will truly come away from this Monograph read with the resonate message of Eastern White Pine’s historical roots, significant longevity as an exterior siding and millwork product.  Not to mention its sustainable benefits when used today to create future history!

Members of the Association and those on our subscription list of 256 will receive their copies this month.   This issue and the entire seven editions that have been published since the rebirth of the Monograph Series may be viewed online at our easternwhiitepine.org website.
