Set into a slope overlooking the Rhine Valley in Switzerland, ‘House Liechtenstein’ is another modern white pine gem by K_M Architecture with a cantilevered upper level making the home seem to float on air. Like ‘House Dornbirn,’ which also has a view of the Rheintal, this residence features a sleek pine-clad profile and boasts gorgeous all-wood interiors – but this one sets off all those creamy wood surfaces with a glittering turquoise swimming pool.
“The entire facade of the building is clad with natural white pine wood taken from the local region and copper,” say the architects. “Thanks to this wooden facade, which has already weathered to a light gray color, the building fits in harmoniously with the surrounding area. The house was designed according to strict considerations of sustainability, involving the ecological quality of the materials and choices such as a solar hot-water-system, geo-thermal heating and a stove in the living area.”
The two L-shaped angles of the home create a sheltered entrance area, and the overhanging roof rests on a concrete support with a cutout that frames views of the mountain. The white pine ceilings and floors are complemented by breezy built-ins and lots of glazing to take in both the pool outside and the landscape beyond it. The wood surfaces continue right out onto the lower deck and the upper balconies for a seamless effect.
