Tiny houses come in all kinds of forms, from humble hunting shacks to luxurious modern residences that are just a little smaller than usual. But we’ve never seen one quite like this – a replica of an original colonial home, scaled way down to a one-bedroom, one-bath getaway. “Oceanside Retreat” by Maine company Creative Cottages LLC might just be the most adorable colonial house ever.
With a footprint of just 411 square feet, the Oceanside Retreat manages to pack in a full kitchen, well-appointed bath, laundry facilities, living space, comfortable sleeping quarters, a loft, a gas fireplace and all the charm you can handle. Anyone who’s ever read NeLMA’s White Pine Monographs knows that this home’s exterior silhouette is a real classic. Creative Cottages added some extra glass to the back to give the retreat generous views of the shore it sits on.
The company partners with Maine-based Hancock Lumber, one of the region’s top sources of Eastern White Pine, to build their cottages. Designer-builder R. McAllister Lloyd is dedicated to using “environmentally sensitive building practices to create custom, energy efficient homes,” and Creative Cottages’ services include design, construction and consulting.
