Hunting Cabin Reimagined: A Beautiful Transformation in New Hampshire’s White Mountains

Locally harvested eastern white pine and an expert touch from a regional log home specialist made a New Hampshire couple’s hunting cabin dreams come true. Before, the only structure built on this five-acre site in the Granite State’s White Mountains was a humble hunting shack used by John Mathieu and his son Spencer. But when John and his wife Lisa Trahan decided they wanted to spend more time there, they had something a little more comfortable in mind.

The couple commissioned New Hampshire-based Coventry Log Homes to build their dream cabin, a 1,140-square-foot getaway that retains the character of the site, and even most of the former shack’s taxidermy.

What you see here is actually the result of a compromise on that point – Lisa says she and John are “kind of like ‘Green Acres.’ New York is where I’d rather stay… but now I love it up here, I really do.”
