2017 Mill Performance Safety Awards Announced by NELMA

NELMA is pleased to announce this year’s safety awards based upon 2017 performance records submitted by Association member mills.  Awards are given to the top mill performers in three categories; Sawmill Operations, Planer Mill Operations, and Combined Operations.  Division levels 1 through 5 are based on total man-hour ranges to recognize safety efforts among small to large mill operations.

Receiving Top Honors for Combined Operations:

  • No Entries for Division – Division 1 (1 to 25,000 man-hours)
  • Lovell Lumber, Lovell, ME – Division 2 (25,001 to 50,000 man-hours)
  • Pukall Lumber, Arbor Vitae, WI – Division 3 (50,001 to 100,000 man-hours)
  • Madison Lumber Mill, West Ossipee, NH – Division 4 (100,001 to 150,000 man-hours)
  • Robbins Lumber – Searsmont, ME – Division 5 (150,001+ man-hours)

Receiving Top Honors for Sawmill Operation:

  • Hammond Lumber, Belgrade, ME – Division 1 (1 to 25,000 man-hours)
  • Pukall Lumber, Arbor Vitae, WI – Division 2 (25,001 to 50,000 man-hours)
  • Robbins Lumber, Searsmont, ME – Division 3 (50,001 to 75,000 man-hours)
  • King Forest Industries, Wentworth, NH – Division 4 (75,001 to 100,000 man-hours)
  • Pleasant River Lumber, Dover-Foxcroft, ME – Division 5 (100,000+ man-hours)

Receiving Top Honors for Planer Mill Operation:

  • Cass Forest Products, Cass Lake, MN – Division 1 (1 to 25,000 hours)
  • Madison Lumber Mill, West Ossipee, NH – Division 2 (25,001 to 50,000)
  • Pleasant River-Moose River Lumber, Jackman, ME – Division 3 (50,001 to 75,000)
  • Pleasant River Lumber, Dover-Foxcroft, ME – Division 4 (75,001 to 100,000)
  • Irving Forest Products, Dixfield, ME – Division 5 (100,001+ man-hours)

Just over 2.8 million manhours were reported to NELMA for 2017, with a total of 10 mills reporting an accident-free year for their employees in combined sawmill and planer operations!

2014 NELMA Safety Awards Announced

NELMA is pleased to announce the 2014 Safety Award winners, honoring the 2013 calendar year lumber manufacturers’ safety performances.  The Awards are given in three categories, Planer Operations, Sawmill Operations, and the Combined Operations High-Honor Awards. Each category has multiple Division winners based on total operational man-hours as reported to NELMA.
