Virtual Tour — The Monmouth Fire Department Museum and 9-11 Memorial

Take the Monmouth Memorial 3D tour and you’re walking through a site with two stories layered into it. The centerpiece is Monmouth, Maine’s original 1904 fire station — saved from demolition, relocated, and rebuilt as a fire museum by the Maine Cabin Masters, with NELMA’s members backing the effort. Right beside it: a 9/11 Memorial Park, anchored by a piece of steel salvaged from the World Trade Center. Both are captured in the tour.

The build wasn’t easy. The crew fought through a punishing demo and had to shore up a failing second floor with 3,500-lb. steel I-beams before a single finish board went up. Lumber donated by NELMA members — Johnson Lumber, Hancock Lumber, and Durgin & Crowell — did the rest, true to the team’s own motto: “Throw some pine at it.”

The museum and memorial park were dedicated together on September 7, 2024, just ahead of the anniversary, closing with a fire truck “push-in” ceremony that reunited the antique engine with its original home and honored the town’s fallen and local heroes alike.

Walk through both in the tour above — then check back for the next stop in the series.
